Hypothesis:  There will be more nutrient pollution in Hood Canal than in the Main Sound due to restricted water movement. 
 
Hypothesis:  There will be more abundance and variety of plankton (zooplankton and BHS deploy netphytoplankton) in the shipping lanes and mid-channel than at wetlands and near shore. 

Hypothesis:  Sediment grain size influences fauna diversity proportionately (smaller grain size ie: mud and silt promotes greater animal diversity)
 
Hypothesis: There will be more nutrients (nitrate and phosphate) and plankton near the Carkeek sewage outfall site than in deep/off shore areas.
   
Hypothesis:  There will be more plankton (zooplankton and phytoplankton) at the mouth of a river than in open water.
 
Hypotheses: 
1)  Areas of freshwater input will have more nutrients, lower salinity, and less plankton than areas with no freshwater input.
2)  There will be more plankton (zooplankton and phytoplankton) in shallow water than in deep water.  
 
Hypothesis:  There will be more plankton (zooplankton and phytoplankton) on the east side of islands than on the west side of islands.
 
Hypothesis:  There will be more nutrients and trash, higher temperature, and less plankton near Harbor Island than near Blake Island.
