Northwest Yachting Sailing the Sound in a Floating Classroom
Although this may seem like a joke, the punch line is true. A father is sailing the waters of Puget Sound with his child when the young boy spies an otter pup, portside. He is fascinated with the curious creature and so when the man gets home, he pulls out his son's new Oxford Children's Dictionary so his child can learn just a little bit more. Funny thing, "otter" isn't listed. Read the entire ARTICLE featured in the May 2009 edition of Northwest Yachting.

Washington Department of Ecology Grant
Salish Sea Expeditions has been awarded a $45,000 Public Participation Grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology. DOE joins NOAA, The Russell Family Foundation and the Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation in supporting Sound and Source, a new program in which students pair their on-boat marine research expedition with an extended on-shore, watershed research project. The DOE funding will support students conducting research in and related to the Duwamish River watershed over a two year period.
Corporate Giving targets Salish
Liz Gorton often looks out on to the waters of Puget Sound from her office in downtown Seattle. On a crisp morning last fall, an email announced the Step It Up challenge, a run up the 42 flights of stairs of the newly opened WaMu Center. Part of Washington Mutual’s employee giving month, the challenge included the company’s commitment to match pledges dollar for dollar for the non-profit of the runner’s choice.
Salish Sea Expeditions: Inquiry & Inspiration
During the week of May 24, 2004 Mount Baker Middle School students from Mount Vernon, Washington boarded the Carlyn for a four day Salish expedition. A team of film makers were aboard to capture students conducting hands-on research projects, navigating the Carlyn, as well as interviews with students, staff, and teachers.
