"Though they all enjoy science at school, their traditional classroom experience with science is rather static.  The structure of the Salish program allowed my students to be real scientists and experience the real challenges and joys of scientific research."

A Teacher's Role in Planning a Student Expedition

To make a reservation request for either our boat-based Sound program or our Sound & Source program extension, please visit our Reservation Request page.

Teachers and Group Leaders who participate in Salish Sea Expeditions' programs with their students are truly co-creators of their students' adventures.  Each expedition is unique and original according to the needs and interests of the participants.

Teachers interested in providing the Salish Sea Expeditions experience to their students should contact the Salish office at jennifer@salish.org.  Salish staff are available to answer questions, provide informational presentations to administrators and parents, and facilitate your planning process.

For registered schools, please visit our Educator Guide page for the Teacher Guide, trip forms, and other relevant information.

New Program Extension Offering

Sound and Source is a customized, watershed-based program extension to our successful boat-based Sea Investigators program.  Through Sound and Source, Salish will work with you to develop both short and longer-term inquiry opportunities and field-based science projects, allowing your students to connect with their local watershed as they repeat the process of designing and conducting their own field investigations.

Our goal is to assist you in overcoming the obstacles you face in getting your students out of the classroom. Whether it’s lacking the time to organize field excursions; money for substitutes, transportation, or equipment; or access to quality curriculum that engages students, we will help fill the gaps that prevent you from acting on these objectives.

Teacher Training

One of the most important tools we offer is an invitation to one of our free Teacher Trainings.  These educational opportunities geared for the classroom educator are a valuable asset to facilitating Sound & Source projects.  The 4 and 6 credit hour trainings will focus on building both knowledge and skills in facilitating inquiry based learning in a field research setting, and the opportunities for integrating Salish's program into classroom curricula.

For more information about our programs, please explore the Sound and Sound & Source links on our Expeditions page.
